Herzog Vindicated: Integrative Taxonomy Reveals That Trichostomum brachydontium (Pottiaceae, Bryophyta) Comprises Several Species

چکیده

The morphologically variable moss Trichostomum brachydontium is very common in south and west Europe, particularly under Mediterranean Atlantic climates. A morphological study was conducted alongside a molecular phylogenetic based on nr ITS cp-rbcL regions order to assess if T. an exceptionally polymorphic species as evidenced by the number of described infraspecific taxa last century or, alternatively, it includes more than one species, so, find valid name for them. Phylogenetic analyses both nuclear chloroplast datasets show that there are four well-supported clades. While ITS-based tree good agreement with data, few inconsistencies reference rbcL tree; this may be explained incomplete lineage sorting hybridization or persistence isolated ancestral races. survey revealed well-defined discriminate differences between lineages. taxonomic conclusions include recognition species: s.s., herzogii (a new proposed var. cuspidatum), littorale, meridionale densum). Lectotypes designated littorale. Our results underline ongoing need integrative studies examine further underestimated diversity complex other regions.

Integrative taxonomy reveals a new species of Callisto (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae) in the Alps

Europe has one of the best-known Lepidopteran faunas in the world, yet many species are still being discovered, especially in groups of small moths. Here we describe a new gracillariid species from the south-eastern Alps, Callistobasistrigella Huemer, Deutsch & Triberti, sp. n. It shows differences from its sister species Callistocoffeella in morphology, the barcode region of the cytochrome c o...

Coalescent-based species delimitation in an integrative taxonomy.

The statistical rigor of species delimitation has increased dramatically over the past decade. Coalescent theory provides powerful models for population genetic inference, and is now increasingly important in phylogenetics and speciation research. By applying probabilistic models, coalescent-based species delimitation provides clear and objective testing of alternative hypotheses of evolutionar...

Integrative Taxonomy of Southeast Asian Snail-Eating Turtles (Geoemydidae: Malayemys) Reveals a New Species and Mitochondrial Introgression

Based on an integrative taxonomic approach, we examine the differentiation of Southeast Asian snail-eating turtles using information from 1863 bp of mitochondrial DNA, 12 microsatellite loci, morphology and a correlative species distribution model. Our analyses reveal three genetically distinct groups with limited mitochondrial introgression in one group. All three groups exhibit distinct nucle...

The term phytase comprises several different classes of enzymes.

This minireview on phytases’ classification is dedicated to honor Professor I.C. Gunsalus, a great mentor to one of us. Several of the research findings from our laboratory had reached his office in the form of manuscripts as editor of Biochemical Biophysical Research Communications. Professor Gunsalus supported our work by encouraging us to publish in a timely fashion. He leaves a legacy of ou...
